A Dental Implant Can Replace a Damaged or Missing Tooth

Posted .

When natural teeth do not receive daily dental care or experience professional treatment from a dentist on a regular basis, they can develop advanced dental problems that result in severe damage. Conditions such as gum disease and tooth decay can lead to the partial or complete loss of a tooth. When this happens, Dr. Henry Espinosa can extract the remaining tooth structure or treat the gap left by a lost tooth. After improving your dental health, our dentist at The Office of Dr. Henry Espinosa can recommend dental implants to replace the damaged or missing tooth.

First, Dr. Henry Espinosa makes a minor incision in the gums to create a channel through the gum tissue to the bone. This is a minimally invasive oral surgery that is needed to place the titanium screw directly into the bone structure. Over the next few weeks, the screw will integrate with the surrounding bone structure (a process known as osseointegration) that creates a strong, permanent hold similar to that of a tooth root.

Following the completion of osseointegration, we will provide a dental crown to replace the upper portion of the tooth. Dr. Henry Espinosa may recommend using porcelain material because it can match the exact shade of the surrounding teeth. We can also use gold or metal alloy material, especially if we are replacing a molar or premolar that is not visible in your smile.

If you are suffering from severe tooth decay or have lost one or more teeth to a dental condition, we can help you restore your smile to full health and strength.
