LANAP® procedures are minimally invasive to your smile, but may still require a recovery period. Following your visit to our practice, you should avoid brushing your teeth or chewing so that you do not injure your healing mouth. During this time, our periodontist may recommend a special diet to protect the surgical site.
During the first week after your procedure, you should consume nothing but liquids. Some liquids you can add to your diet are:
- Kellogg’s Special K protein shake
- Atkins shake
- Fruit shake
- Beef or chicken broth
- Anything you want to put in a blender and drink
We advise that you supplement each shake with whey protein while on a liquid diet, unless you are lactose intolerant.
During the second week after the procedure, you can begin eating soft foods, including:
- Cottage cheese
- Mashed potatoes
- Cream of wheat
If you experience any discomfort, you can take an Ibuprofen 600mg tablet twice per day or an Amoxicillin 55mg tablet three times per day. Please contact our office if you experience an unusual reaction or persistent bleeding. Refrain from touching your teeth, as this could dislodge important blood clots. Contact us at 505-888-1116 if you would like to learn more about post-op instructions for periodontal treatments in Albuquerque, New Mexico, or if you are ready to schedule an appointment with our periodontist, Dr. Henry Espinosa.
